The Perth-ect Holiday Destination

My all-time favourite destination on the planet is noted for being the sunniest capital in the world. With its enticing beaches, lively nightlife, markets, culture, beautiful parks and a very welcoming atmosphere, Perth, Western Australia is the ideal holiday destination.

With an average of eight hours of blazing sunshine a day, you wouldn’t be surprised that it is very much a beach lifestyle in Perth. If surfing and water sports are your thing, definitely visit Scarborough beach. Not only are the waves incredible all year round, it is also home to one of my favourite restaurants, Jimmy Deans. This Hard Rock-style diner gives you the option of eating on the balcony overlooking the sparkling Indian Ocean. Their steaks are to die for (don’t even get me started on their strawberry daiquiris!).

Other notable beaches include City Beach, Brighton Beach, Trigg, Sorrento and in particular, Cottesloe, the most popular beach in Perth.

Whilst in Perth, make sure you visit the gorgeous King’s Park and Botanic Garden. The park provides incredible views of the city skyline and the Swan River, plus you have the opportunity of walking along the 222 metre long Treetop Walk. King’s Park is the perfect place for a picnic in the sun, or if you feel like spoiling yourself, dine at the elegant Fraser’s Restaurant.

If you fancy getting up close and personal with the Australia wildlife, visit Perth Zoo where you can walk amongst the kangaroos and koalas. If you are lucky, you may even get the chance to hold a wombat (heavy creatures, I might add!). Hillary’s Marina is home to a boardwalk built across the marina and AQWA, a sea life centre where you can experience the beauty of the coral reef and the aquatic wildlife in an underwater walk or dip your hand in rock pools to stroke a stingray or hold a starfish. If you are feeling brave, you can even scuba dive with the sharks!

To get a feel for the culture of Western Australia a visit to Fremantle is a must. Fremantle promotes indigenous art, live music and entertainment with its talented buskers and the markets are teeming with local produce, hand-made jewellery, souvenirs and other nik naks.

Perth is well known for its nightlife. Leederville, Northbridge and Subiaco are the places to be! For live music and a pub feel, visit Black Betty’s. If commercial dance music is more your thing, Paramount is a great choice, as is Eve, situated in the Burswood Complex (Burswood is noted for its casino and theatre). There is a plethora of bars and clubs in Perth and whether you feel like going for a drink and a dance or relaxing for a coffee and some gelato (Italian ice cream) in the evening, you will not be stuck for choice!

So what are you waiting for? Escape the winter for a memorable holiday in the beautiful (and sunny!) city of Perth.
