Now that Christmas is past and we’re well into the new year, many of us are beginning to plan weekends away and summer holidays. Let’s face it, we’ve had enough of this cold, grey weather and we’re all looking forward to being able to get outdoors and enjoy ourselves.

Instead of splashing out on trips abroad, another option is camping or caravanning in the UK. Now you’ve had one of two reactions to that…you either thought that sounds perfect or you thought “no way!, the weather is bad, there’s nothing to do and I’m not sleeping in a tent!”.

Hiking Blog may give you some inspiration. Phil and Cat blog about their trips, which range from an easy afternoon walk to wild camping in Snowdonia. Many of their trips are in the Peak District National Park, from the luscious hilly beauty of the White Peak to the higher, more rugged, wilder area of the Dark Peak.

One thing that is always guaranteed is that there’ll be food, including a good old English breakfast! Their key to hiking and camping is to make sure that to do it in a way that suits them. There are no rules about how light your backpack should be or snobbishness about caravan parks, each trip can be different or you can find out what suits you and stick to it.

Wild camping is a fantastic experience, really allowing you to get back to nature, rely on yourself and enjoy the peace, tranquillity and unparalleled feeling of sleeping under the stars away from civilisation. But sometimes a weekend in the caravan can be just as rewarding, allowing you to enjoy a home away from home and eat good food whilst enjoying the great outdoors when the weather suits.
